After being announced in December 2015 as 1 of 60 young people from across the Commonwealth who is leading the change in their community – MADE Founder, Trevis Belle then prepared for the once in a lifetime opportunity, travelling to London, England for a residential week.

On June 16th 2016, our President departed for this amazing experience. While in London, the Queen’s Young Leaders had the opportunity to visit various businesses to receive some training and knowledge. Some of these businesses included: the UK Twitter Headquarters, BBC World Service and AMV BBDO. They also got media training by the well renowned Media Trust who assists non profits with their communication techniques.

They also visited the famous No. 10 Downing Street, which is home to the Prime Minister of the UK Mr. David Cameron.

They then travelled to Cambridge which was their home for two days where they got to experience their online course ‘Leading Change’ course first hand and heard from incredible presenters such as: Dr. Karen Salt, Fredrik Haren, Oli Barrett and Will Day. Whilst at Cambridge, the QYL’s also got to discuss with some 2015 Queen’s Young Leaders to develop ideas as to strengthen the alumni network.

We also visited Marlborough House, where we engaged in dialogue with the Commonwealth Secretary General – Her Baroness Scotland about ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. While there, we also met with the respective High Commissioners for our countries.

Then the day they all waited for was finally here, the Awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace where they received their awards from Her Majesty The Queen. Also in attendance at the ceremony were Sir John Major, Princess Eugenie, David Beckham, Sir Lenny Rogers, Prince Harry, Secretary General of the Commonwealth – Baroness Scotland and famous blogger Alfie Days. Following the ceremony, there was a dinner held under the patronage of the Australian High Commissioner at the Australia House.

The final day of the Residential Week ended with a top notch dinner at the highest building in London – The Shard, where the official search for the 2017 Queen’s Young Leaders was launched.
